Barbarian violins? When the trio comes into action, you hear pleasant melodies, smooth galloping rhythms, and a voice with a majestic bass range. Violons Barbares are the two violinists "Epi" (Mongolia) and Dimitar Gougov (Bulgaria) and the percussionist Fabien Guyot (France). The Mongolian plays the two-stringed horse head violin of his homeland, the Bulgarian plays the gadulka, an instrument with three melodic and eleven sympathetic resonating strings. Wonderfully played, this music awakens a yearning for wide open spaces.
