Dark groove music, interspersed with screeching saxophones, hypnotic rhythms and stoic keyboard passages. The Imperial Tiger Orchestra was formed almost three years ago and has already become a hot name for Ethiopian music. The sextet from Geneva mainly plays pieces from the 1970s, the golden age of modern Ethiopian music. In a break with tradition, there are no vocals. Instead, this post-punk rock 'n' roll band is dancing and swaying its way to big-town stages with boundless energy and hypnotizing appeal.
Raphaël Anker: trumpet; John Menoud: baritone saxophone; Alexandre Rodrigues: Fender Rhodes piano, synthesizer; Cyril Moulas: electric bass; Julien Israelian: drums; Luc Détraz: percussion
