Last year they won the nationally renowned ZKB Jazz Prize in Moods, Zurich's premier jazz venue, and immediately invested the winnings in a new EP with DVD: Plaistow is an innovative trio, led by Johann Bourguenez, a pianist from Geneva. Even the name of the band, taken from a song by British electro producer Squarepusher, suggests a jazz piano trio seeking to break new ground in conventional sound fields. Noisy particles are pushed into spherical textures where minimal structures and repetitiveness dominate, though occasionally eclipsed by hectic and controversial interludes.
