The music of this Peruvian ensemble has nothing to do with El Condor Pasa kitsch. Novalima concentrate on the rhythm-stressed music of the black minority in Peru. They combine their melodies and grooves with reggae, salsa, son, and the beats of international club culture. The effects work similarly well together as in the Gotan Project, where the Argentinean tango forms the foundation. With their multi-faceted fusion of sounds, Novalima have promoted a new awareness of Peru's suppressed cultural heritage, which is cultivated by the descendants of African slaves.
